Three Sisters

Three Sisters

Alison Chapman-Andrews (England, 1942 – Barbados, 2025) trained at the Royal College of Art in London and settled in Barbados in 1971. For the first few decades, she worked as an artist, art teacher, curator, and newspaper arts columnist. Later, as she struggled with a debilitating illness, she committed herself entirely to painting for which she had an all consuming passion. Over the years, Chapman-Andrews became ‘the great dame of Barbadian art’ and was widely recognized as a master of Caribbean landscape painting to which her approach was distinctive and innovative. While the palm-tree (in all its varieties) was the most typical feature of her paintings, she was especially fond of the island's many gullies which are repositories of the island’s original rain forest.
