Baptism

Sheri AnnMarié Nicholls was born and raised in Barbados. She received her BFA from the Barbados Community College, where she is now a part-time tutor. Nicholls works on every scale in a predominantly naturalistic style in oils, acrylic, water color and mixed media. Having always been fascinated by the features of the Barbadian landscape, by the ocean and the life that unfolds around it, Nicholls’ love for the outdoors has been an enduring inspiration for her work and, though her thematic span is wide and includes domestic scenes, and portraits of people and places, she returns time and again, to the ocean, the sea-shore and its fishing boats, usually with a human presence implied, rather than actually depicted. ‘Baptism’, which is displayed at the Indigo, is in that regard an exception.
