CORAL REEF

Joanne Reed is a British born artist, who lives and works in Barbados. Rooted in her longstanding connection with the island, her work is centered on its landscapes and people. Reed’s portrayal of figures in landscapes weave abstraction and realism together into a distinctive and intriguing style. While her paintings seemingly gesture towards ‘stories’, they remain elusive and enigmatic and, despite the emphatic use of light and shadow – normally indicators of the passing of time - many of Reed’s figures and scenes appear to be fixed in a timeless present. The paintings displayed at the Indigo represent two of the islands best known beaches, ‘Coral Reef’ on the west coast and ‘Miami Beach’ near Oistins.
