Passing Parade - Tuk

Passing Parade - Tuk

A stalwart of Barbadian art, Arthur Atkinson has been exhibiting since 1968. Working mainly in acrylics, watercolour, inks and mixed media, his style has for the most part been representational, but occasionally also expressionistic or stylised. His subject matter has been all things “Bajan” (Barbadian), from landscapes, coastlines, and vegetation to people and cultural traditions. “Passing Parade – Tuk” exemplifies the latter in capturing the excitement of young and old spectators gathering on the balconies of the traditional two-storied city buildings as the Tuk-Bank (a traditional musical ensemble, unique to Barbados) makes its way up the street.
